Notes |
- In the index to births, New York City, Rosalie's birth is erroneously indexed under the name "Female Rothnell", although her actual birth certificate gives her correct name. According to birth certificate, she was the tenth child of her mother. (New York City Civil Registration, Manhattan 1905, Birth Certificate #45525)
New York Infant Asylum, where Rosalie Rothwell was born, was a charity hospital.
According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 11 June 1915, page 7, Rosalie (of 4B, Remsen School, PS 114, (1077 Remsen Avenue in Canarsie), was on the honor roll.
According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 27 October 1917, page 2, Rosalie (of the 7th year class, Ryder School (previously Remsen School), PS 114, was on the September honor roll.
According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 21 January 1919, page 11, Rosalie graduated from PS 77. According to the Newtown Register (Elmhurst, Queens), 30 January 1919, page 1, Rosalie graduated from PS 77, Evergreen in Queens' Second Ward (Seneca Ave and Center Street in Ridgewood).
According to the Federal Census of US 1920, Kings County (Schenectady Ave): Rosalie was the only child left at home, she was living with her "widowed" mother and her maiden aunt Emma.
According to papers in possession of the author, Rosalie Rothwell was living on Railroad Avenue in Woodridge New Jersey before her marriage. Possibly because her brother [name not given- William, or a brother in law ?] was living on "the South Side of Moonachie Avenue a block west from Moonachie School." After her marriage, Rosalie Gorab lived on Union Avenue between 8th and 9th Streets in Wood Ridge, New Jersey with her husband George Gorab, her brother in law Albert Gorab lived on 384 Main Avenue, Wood Ridge New Jersey.
New Jersey Certificate of Marriage, 1924, George Gorab to Rosalie Rothwell, West Hoboken, certificate #563. Acc. to the marriage registration, they lived on 310 Union Ave. George J. Gorab, Jr.'s birth certificate gives the same address.
Federal Census of US 1930, Bushwick, Brooklyn NY: Enumerates Rosalie (looks like "Rosalle"] Gorab and her son George, age 4. Much information inaccurate, for example George's birthplace is NY, his parents BPs as NY. This is of course wrong. Rosalie's age at first marriage, 18. Listed as divorced. They are enumerated at the last home address of Gerda Rothwell, indicating that mother and son had probably been living with Rosalie's mother when Gerda died.
In 1933-1934 Brooklyn City Directory, Lee Rothwell (hairdresser) and Thomas Casey (electrician) were both living at 110 S. Portland Avenue (Fort Greene); no apartment # is listed for T.C... They may have met each other as neighbors, although citizenship papers claim earlier acquaintance with each other (see notes for Thomas S. Boutilier). The couple took out a marriage license in July 1937 (23 July 1937 Brooklyn Daily Eagle, p. 26 ("Thomas Botilier" and "Rosalie Gorab" of 427 Pacific St. ) but did not marry until almost a decade later (in 1946).
Died at home; cremated 3/15/1980. Informant of death certificate, husband. Source, death certificate in possession of author.
