"Catharine McDonald" is 20 years old on the 1871 Census of Canada (she is living with her family, household 92, page 33 Mabou District 1, line 1.) She may have been born in 1851 rather than 1855; this would make her a couple of years older than her husband, however, not too old to have her final child in 1892. She provides the age of 20 years on the 1875 civil registration of her marriage, however.

"Mrs. Thomas Casey. Glace Bay, June 20-The death occurred yesterday at her home at Caledonia of Mrs. Thomas Casey, aged 79. Born in Inverness county, Mrs. Casey had lived in Glace Bay for 63 years and had she lived would have celebrated her golden jubilee of her marriage next month. Held in the very highest esteem, Mrs. Casey was universally liked throughout the whole town. She was a valued members [sic] of St. Annes Society and St. Margaret's Scottish Council. She is survived by her husband and five daughters, a son and other children predeceased her. Surviving daughters are Mrs. James Leslie and Mrs. John MacNeil, Caledonia, Mrs. Dalton, Boston, Mrs. Ryan Mulgrave, Mrs. Schofield Charlottetown. The funeral takes place Friday morning to St. Anne's church." Sydney Post Record, June 20, 1935.
