    • Births Dec 1855 Rothwell Arthur Edward Bury 8c 293

Naturalized (as A.E. Rothwell) in County Court of Kings County, vol 74 pg #136. Thomas C. Rothwell was the witness.

"Arthur Rothwell, of 96 High Street, a fireman on board the ferryboat Farragut, of the Fulton Ferry Line, was killed yesterday morning while the boat was lying in the slip on the Brooklyn Side. The deceased stepped into the machinery without notifying the engineer, while the latter was engaged in oiling it. To prevent the oil running down on the side the engineer "turned over" the engine. Rothwell was caught between the crank and the engine frame, his chest being crushed in. He died in a few moments."
THE NEW YORK TIMES July 4, 1878 pg 8

"Arthur Rothwell, a fireman in the employ of the Union Ferry Company, was struck by the crank of the engine of the ferry-boat Farragut yesterday morning, and sustained fatal injuries. He died while being taken to the hospital in the ambulance. He resided at High and Jay-sts." New York Tribune 4 July 1878

Arthur's death certificate states that the Rothwell home on 96 High Street was a one family house and that Arthur had been living there for 13 years. He died at Long Island College Hospital. (Arthur E. Rothwell death cert, Kings County, year 1878, cert # 5076)
