      Charles Tate, 33, is a visitor in the household of William Proud, 34 year old coal miner (hewer) from Allendale, County Durham (sic), wife Margaret Proud, age 31, born Heworth, Durham, and their family.
      Charles is a bricklayer (builder) (worker), and living with his wife Mary (born Windy Nook, Durham) and daughter Florance (sic), born same place.

      He immigrated to Detroit, Michigan. His one surviving child, Florence "Flossie" Tate married Mr. Main. (two other children died of diphtheria)

      Ancestry.com Detroit Border Crossings collections (M1478_104) Charles Tate bricklayer arrived at Detroit June 25, 1917 from London, Ontario; in US from 1913 to April 19, 1917 in Detroit; contact brother John Tate of 706 Woodward Avenue Detroit. Scar on back of right hand and scar on back of left ear.

      Charles Wells Tate filled out a draft registration on September 10, 1918, Wayne County, Michigan Roll 203, # 2600 Draft Board 20. At the time, he was living at 706 Woodrow Avenue, his brother John "Casey" Tate's house. He was still a citizen of England; his wife, here called "Mary Elizabeth Tate," was living at 79 Greenhow Terrace in Newcastle. He was of medium height and build with grey eyes and brown hair. He was engaged in a construction project in Muscle Shoals, Colbert County, Alabama. He gave his date of birth as April 30, 1883 (sic).
