    • Mary (MacKenzie) MacDonald or "Miss MacKenzie" the wife of John McDonald, is identified in "Mabou Pioneers" as being a "cousin of the "late Reverend Father Archie MacKenzie [of Christmas Island, Cape Breton]." Mary (MacKenzie) MacDonald was probably born no earlier than about 1730, making her an unlikely cousin for the said Rev. MacKenzie, who was born at least 100 years later. If Mary (MacKenzie) MacDonald is indeed related to Rev. Archie MacKenzie of Christmas Island, then her closest relationship to the Rev. is probably that of a great-aunt, which is a plausibly close tie for there to have remained some kind of memory of kinship within the families and for the Rev. MacKenzie's actual cousins (Mary (McKenzie) McDonald's children and grandchildren on Cape Breton) to boast about their relationship to the accomplished Father. Hector MacKenzie of Barra was the grandfather of the Christmas Island MacKenzies, including the said Rev. MacKenzie. Hector was born around 1744 and his wife and children accompanied him to Cape Breton. (All of the author's information about Barra MacKenzies comes from research by Mrs. J.
