      [one Patience Wightfield was buried 14 Feb 1759/60 in Bideford; Patience Whitefield of Bideford left a will, probated 4 Mar 1763 (Barnstaple Archdeaconry); however, there was another John/Patience Whitefield couple in the subsequent generation; also apparently Nonconformists]

      "WHITEFIELD- Patience nee Vernam. Niece and heiress of Arthur Vernam. Married John Whitefield 1704. He gained an interest in the pipemakers' houses [at Bideford], presumably through her. (DRO BBT A/3/2 Survey of Bridge Lands 1745)"
