"Gervais Haibeck was born in 1914, in the Cartwright home in Lethbridge. His family operated the Chin store, built about 1911 for many years. The family lived above the two-storey general store, which sold everything...."My father John ran the store, and he came up from Pipestone, Minn., and my mother, Ella Mae Flynn, was from Ontario," said Haibeck. "The store was also the post office and my father was postmaster" ("Chin's history rich with Prairie lore", Lethbridge Herald, June 9, 2001 p C5)
