Patrick A. Casey, 93, Dies at Home. Glace Bay-Patrick A. Casy [sic], 93, who worked in Caledonia colliery for a total of 68 years, died at the family home, 151 Main Street, Friday. A native of St. John's, Nfld, Mr. Casey came here when very young and when in his teens went to work in Caledonia mine. Mr. Casey was one of the town's best known citizens and his name will always be associated with Glace Bay and the coal industry. His record has few equals in the matter of years of service to the mines. Years ago Mr. Casey served as a member of the Town Council. He was a member of the league of the cross when that society flourished in this area. He was one of the first members of the L.O.C. Band. For many years he served as a member of the Board of Wardens of St. Anne's parish. A few years ago when Holy Cross parish was erected in the Caledonia district, Mr. Casey became a member of that parish. Despite his great age, Mr. Casey was keen and alert. He had a wealth of knowledge of early mining in this area and while most of his contemporaries have passed on Mr. Casey had won for himself many friends among a new generation. His passing is widely mourned. Mr. Casey's wife died a few years ago and surviving are three sons, Thomas J. Casey, chief inspector of mines, Halifax, now here; John and Joe Casey, both of Glace Bay; four daughters, (Annie) Mrs. Daniel Campbell, Bridgeport; (Francis) Mrs. Michael MacKinnon, Main Street; Katherine and Mary, both of Town. There are 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The remains are reposing at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Campbell, 271 Main Street, Bridgeport."
