Probate of will of George Fortescue of Combe in Holbeton, Esq., dated 9 May 1628.
£40 to four youngest children of Susan, his daughter, wife of Stephen Ley; £100 to Garthered Fortescue, daughter of Bartholomew, his son and heir apparent, on her marriage; £100 to Arthur, son of Bartholomew Fortescue, on age of 21.
Messuages and lands called Birchment and Landsend in Colebrooke, occupied by Rose Snell, or John Snell or Christopher Snell, her sons, to Arthur Fortescue, son of Bartholomew Fortescue, for 30 years from the death of the tenants.
Messuages in Bridgerule and Colebrooke, and messuages, etc. called Burrells Combe in Holbeton: messuages and two closes called Firebeacon Parke and Blindwell in the same; ground one acre, called Gagford Hill in the same: and messuages and land in Lowdisworthie in Colebrooke and Bridgerule, to Philip Hurle, Esq., Willyam Bligh of Modbury, Esq., John Cole of Holbeton, yeoman, and John Venning of Holbeton, yeoman, on trust to pay his debts, and then for John Fortescue, son and heir apparent of Bartholmew Fortescue, and the heirs male of his body, failing whom., to Arthur Fortescue and the heirs male of his body, failing whom to the heirs of the body of the testator, etc.
Power to lease capital messuage of Coombe in trust for Bartholomew, his son, failing whom, to John and Arthur, his grandsons.
