  • Notes
    • It appears that Nicolas Bouteillier, father of Guillaume Bouteillier, remarried at Etobon a year after the death of his wife Ursule Beuchot (1670), to Madeleine Migneré (1671), daughter of Nicolas Migneré. Madeleine Migneré died at Etobon 4/16/1679 at around seventy years of age. Nicolas Bouteillier of Etobon may be the same Nicolas Bouteillier who was buried at Chagey on January 25, 1675. (Why were both of his wives buried at Etobon and he at Chagey? Nicolas' burial record (which is found among Chagey parish records) says that he was a native of Chagey, resident of Etobon, who died at Luze. This Nicolas died leaving behind "deux fils."

The other child surviving Nicolas was likely Leonard Bouteillier, son of Nicolas Bouteillier of Luze; Leonard was m. 1663, at Chagey, to Bonne Cuchard of Luze. Child: 1664, Henriette; Leonard died 1676; Bonne Cuchard was remarried 1678 to Pierre Bourqueney, and died 1707; she was also known as Bonne Marie Cuchard (for example at a 1687 baptism of Bonne Marie Nochier at Chagey); and she is probably the baptism sponsor "Bonne Marie de Luze" in 1678 at Etobon for Guillaume's daughter Bonne Marie Bouteillier (and would be the aunt of the child if so-a reasonable supposition)

January 27, 1663 at Chagey: Leonard Bouteillier son of Nicholas both res. Luze, married Bonne Cuchard of Luze. Leonard died at Luze Nov 16, 1676, buried the next day. Henriette Bouteillier was born July 24, 1664. The baptism sponsors were Jehan Carpet of Byans and Henriette Doucelance of Luze, represented by her mother Jeannette Bonhostal. Bonne was remarried June 18, 1678 to Pierre Bourqueney of Luze, and died October 4, 1707, burial at Chagey.

What is Nicolas' relationship to the other Bouteilliers of Chagey and to "Jehan Quaty", call name Bouteiller, who was deceased before 1487 and is assumed to be the progenitor of all Montbeliard Bouteillers by Charles Mathiot (see Nova Scotia's Montbéliard Names by Terrence M.
