    • Paternal identification (Harold's biological father was Greenpoint native Joseph Reade) is based on DNA evidence - matches between his descendants, and members of the Read(e) and White families. Marriage license says his father was "Harold E. Keenan" (sic), as does his death certificate. There was no birth certificate filed (in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens).

"Boy Run Down While At Play in Street"
Harold Keenan, 10 years old, of 236 Calyer street, was badly injured yesterday afternoon when he was run down by a horse and wagon of the Mehlin Oil Company. The accident occurred at Calyer and Oakland streets while young Keenan was playing with a number of other boys." The driver of the wagon, George Steele, says the boy ran directly in front of the wagon and was knocked down, the front wheels passing over his body. Steele bundled the injured lad into the wagon and made record time to the Greenpoint avenue station. A call was sent to the Eastern District Hospital, and Dr. Miller responded. He dressed sundry cuts and abrasions of the head and shoulders. Keenan's right ear was nearly torn from his head, and the doctor declares that there is a probability of internal injuries"
