    • LUCY HALIDAY

Possibly the Lucy Haliday, daughter of Joseph, Cavan Militia Band Master, and Mary, born in Kilkenny and baptized April 8, 1810 at St. Mary's C of I , County Kilkenny. (Either this Lucy, or an earlier Lucy who died in infancy).

Limerick Evening Post Friday 27 January 1832
"Marriages...Mr. Horatio Manning, to Miss Lucy Halliday of Cope-street, Dublin"

      Freeman's Journal, December 9, 1848
      Dublin Police-Yesterday-Exchange Court-Office
"Mrs. Lucy Manning of New-street, charged a girl named Mary Smith, on suspicion of having stolen a 3 pound note from her. Complainant had the note in a press along with other money; the prisoner was her servant in the house, and as there was no other person who had recourse to the press she was charged with having stolen the note, as she saw Mrs. Manning take some money out of the place a short time before the note was missed. The prisoner was remanded."

The marriage occurred at Drumcondra, Clonturk parish (Church of Ireland). James Rountree and James Keith witnessed. Thomas Long officiated the marriage. Lucy was resident at Grange Gorman and the groom at Richmond (a street in Drumcondra). The groom was a son of sadler William Forrett

Lucy's marriage to Forrett must have been brief, or it was annulled, as Lucy used the name "Lucy Manning," not "Lucy Forrett," for the rest of her life. She moved with her son Henry Manning to Brooklyn, New York before the year 1865, when she is listed in the city directory as "Lucy Manning, wid. music," presumably because she gave music lessons.
