"Ed Guina Family submitted by Hilda Guina. Ed Guina, youngest son of Pat and Johanna Guina, was born at Flinton, Ontario. As a young man, he came West seeking his fortune. For a time he worked in a logging camp near Prince Albert. Then, as the rodman on the final survey of the C.N.R., he walked from the Borden Bridge to Edmonton. Ed and his companions suffered many hardships on their way back to Borden in the fall. The next spring, Ed filed a claim on a homestead, SW1/4 Sec. 30 Tp 40 R 9 W 3rd. He walked from Saskatoon with Dan Hunt, who homesteaded the adjoining quarter to the east. Ed went back to Ontario and married Estella Marie Finn at Centerville on January 16, 1907. In April of that year, he brought his bride, his parents, and his sister, Eliza, as well as two carloads of settler's effects and two horses, Billie and Frank, to their homestead at Radisson. Here they spent most of their lives. Ed was always interested in livestock. He started a herd of Registered Shorthorn cattle that did very well for him and his son, Carroll. Ed was a good-natured man, and was noted for always having a faithful dog. Ed and Stella raised seven children: Caroll, Mary Patricia, Jack, Bernadette, Bernard, Rita and Ted. Their home always had the "Welcome" mat out for everyone. In 1945, Ed had a stroke, so he and Stella retired from the farm and moved to California. He died in 1950 and she in 1959..."
