- "Bill Hawkins Family by Hilda Guina. Katherine (Kate) Guina, daughter of Pat and Johanna, was born in 1867, the year of Confederation. She married Bill Hawkins in Ontario. Their three children were born there before they moved west. On the trip from the east, Mary their only daughter, caught pneumonia and died shortly after they arrived at Radisson. The Bill Hawkins family bought C.P.R. land near the other members of the Guina family farming at Radisson. Bill was a very kind and patient man. Kate had one crippled hand for some time before they came west. Bill would brush Kate's long hair and do it up for her every morning. Really being handicapped was no great burden for Kate-she made bread with one hand. And was a real good cook-"one of the best. It was a treat to go to Aunt Kate's for a meal." Kate died in 1929 at the age of 62. Sometime after Kate died, Bill rented his farm to Will Guina. The Will Guina family moved in with Bill. He stayed there for some time and spent part of his time with his son, Pat, on his farm. When Bill took sick, he went to Ed Guinas' and died at their place in 1935 at the age of 78...."
