      John Telfer Carl Haibeck, businessman

      (Todd) John Telfer Carl Haibeck, businessman, was born on May 26, 1918, at Lethbridge, Alta., the son of John and Helen Mae (Flynn) Haibeck. He is Canadian born of Irish and Norwegian parentage. On December 31, 1956, he married Blanche Ostlund, of Sterling, Alta. They have four children: John Telford, Thomas Michael, Suzanne Marie and Barbara Mae. He attended elementary school at Chin, Alta., and high school in Coaldale, Alta. In 1938 and 1939 he attended night classes at the University of Toronto. In 1937 Mr. Haibeck worked in the collection and sales department of Massey Harris, Calgary; 1938-39, accounting and cost studies for production, Massey Harris, Toronto, Ont.; 1940-42 general agent, Massey Harris, Calgary; 1942 to present, owner, General Farm Supplies Ltd., Lethbridge, Alta., and 1946 to date, United Machine Distributors, Calgary, Alta. In 1954 he incorporated Preferred Finance Corp., Ltd., and in 1962 he incorporated Haico Manufacturing Ltd. He remains as president of the above companies. He is a member of the Farm Equipment Wholesalers Association, a Minneapolis, Minnesota Association. Mr. Haibeck is a strong supporter and past president of the John Howard Society. He is a member of the Chinook Club and the Country Club. He served a short time in the Canadian Army. One of his biggest achievements is starting four companies and having them all prosper. His hobbies are business and travelling. He is an active supporter of democracy. His church affiliation is Roman Catholic.
