      Robt. Carothers Dies, Former GE Executive
      Robert M. Carothers, retired General Electric Co. executive and treasurer of the Schenectady Civic Music Association for 20 years, died at the Mount Loretto Convalescent and Rest Home Wednesday. Ill since November, he was a patient at Mount Loretto for the past five weeks. He was 67. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Herbert S. Mckee and interment will be at Vale cemetery. The Baxter funeral home will be open tonight from 7 to 8 o'clock. Born at Starkville, Miss., Mr. Carothers was graduated in 1906 from the A. and M. College in Starkville. His wife, the former Helen H. Rothwell, died in 1920. Mr. Carothers started with the General Electric Co. as a student engineer on Sept. 14, 1906. He was transferred to the power and mining engineering department Sept. 1, 1909, and then to voltage regulator engineering. He became assistant head of this department in 1934 and head in 1936. This later became part of the central station department and the industrial control sales, where he continued until his retirement Nov. 1 1951. Mr. Carothers became a members [sic] of First Presbyterian Church in 1908 and served as elder from 1933 to 1939 and trustee from 1941 to 1946. He was a charter member of the Schenectady Civic Music Association and had been on the board of directors for 20 years. He retired as treasurer of the organization this spring. Survivors include a son, Robert G. Carothers of 837 Hampton Avenue: two brohers, Charles Carothers of Sudbury, Mass., and A. Beattie Carothers of Greenwood, Miss.; two sisters Mrs. F.J. Weddell of Clarksville, Miss., and Miss Rose Carothers of Starkville, Miss. Bearers will be Robert N. Bushman, Walter G. Butler, Arno H. Pause, Remi J. Roberts, Russell Sage and W.H. Turner. Honorary bearers will be O.O. Bottoroff and Harlowe F. Dean of New York city; Joseph G. Derrick; the elders, deacons and trustees of First Presbyterian Church; [long list of names omitted]"
