      His birth certificate (civil registration) was under the name "Lance Tate," son of "pitman" John Tate and Ann (Coburn [sic]) Tate. Informant was mother Ann Tate.
      Baptized at All Saints, Monkwearmouth, as "Lancelot Tate" to "John and Ann Tate, of colliery, miner" on August 15, 1851

      "Caseys grandfather was born in Sunderland near Newcastle had 3 children Lance tate Annie + Lewesa he left to come to North America and never was heard of 7 years later his wife married Mr Wells a bulder and brought up Caseys father + 4 of his own later Lance tate Caseys father married a widow with 2 children Joe and Annie Dunn Caseys stepsister + Brother Casey was 3 years younger than Joe the loved each other the were bricklayers Joe became a builder he was 35 when he married Monty Graham 21 Casey worked for him 40 years was promised a pension but never got it at 59 Joe took a stroke + died he was worth one hundred thousand Monty married and most of it went to his half sisters and nephews he was found dead in his bathroom 7 years later she died of Cansar." - - from undated notes by Margaret (Hoy) Tate in possession of the author
