"This is the last will and testament of me, Michael Flanagan, of the Township of Sheffield, in the County of Lennox & Addington, Farmer, made this Twenty-Fifth day of January, A.d. 1899.
1. I give and devise to my son, Patrick Flanagan, the South East part of Lot 18 in the 2nd Concession of the Township of Sheffield, being 64 1/2 acres, conveyed to me by my mother, Mary Flanagan, by Deed dated 3rd Feb'y 1869, Registered in the Registry Office for the County of Lennox and Addington in Book 2 for the Township of Sheffield, on 6th March 1869, as Number 142; also part of the South West Quarter of Lot 18 in the 3rd Concession of Sheffield, being a strip containing about 17 acres, bounded on the South by the Southerly boundary of said Quarter Lot and on the north partly by a fence, now there about 20 rods north of said south boundary at the easterly end of said Quarter Lot and extending westerly, and the other part by a line drawn in continuation of the line of said fence westerly to the west end of said Quarter Lot, also a strip on the West end of said Quarter Lot, being two rods wide and extending from the North boundary of said 17 acre plot northernly along the concession line 5 or 6 rods more or less to a suitable place for building a cattle pass under and across the road-so as to connect the said 17 acre plot with the 64 1/2 acre lot hereinbefore mentioned-all the above subject to the payment of one-third of the amount remaining unpaid on a mortgage of the south 3/4 of lot 18 in the 3rd Concession of Sheffield, which I made to John Matthews for $ 400, of which $ 100 is already paid-also subject to the payment to my daughter, Julia Flanagan, of one hundred dollars when she gets married, if within five years of my death, or after five years on her demand, with interest, from that time until paid.
2. I also give and bequeath to my said son, Patrick Flanagan, one span of horses, two milch cows, three sheep, one set of double harness and one plow; he to have the choice of them from among the stock and goods I may die possessed of.
3. To my son, Thomas Flanagan, I give and devise the north part-60 acres more or less--of the west half of Lot 19 in the 4th concession of Sheffield, conveyed to me by Richd. Hinch by Deed bearing date 25th November 1896-Registered in the Registry office for the County of Lennox & Addington, in Book 7 for the Township of Sheffield on 8th January 1897 as No. 3572---subject to the payment of one third of the amount remaining unpaid on the mortgage I made to John Matthews hereinbefore mentioned; also subject to the payment of one hundred dollars to my daughter, Bridget Flanagan, when she gets married, if within five years on my death, or after five years on her demand with interest from that time until paid. And subject to the payment of $ 50. to my son, Michael Flanagan, if he calls for it within ten years of my death, and then to be paid on demand, but if not so called for it shall be forfeited to my said son, Thomas, and not thenceforth after said term of ten years be a charge upon said lands; and futher subject to the payment of $ 50. to my son James Flanagan within three years of my death.
4. I also give and bequeath to my said son, Thomas Flanagan, all my interest in the North East Quarter of Lot 19 in the 4th Concession of Sheffield, which I got by Quit-Claim Deed from Richard Hinch.
5. To my wife, Julia Flanagan, I give devise and bequeath all that part of the South three quarters of Lot 18 in the 3rd Concession of Sheffield, which is not hereinbefore devised to my son, Patrick with all farm stock, implements, and other personal property I own, except what is hereinbefore bequeathed to my son, Patrick-to be hers during her lifetime, with remainder thereof to my son, John Flanagan after her death, to be his, his heirs and assigns forever, Subject, in the case of my said wife to the payment of all my just debts, except for the two thirds of mortgage, hereinbefore mentioned-and of my funeral expenses and the cost of proving of this my Will, including the erection at my grave of a suitably inscribed headstone. And in the case of my said son, John, to the payment by him of the funeral expense of my said wife when she shall die-including the erection at her grave of a suitably inscribed headstone.
6. My will further is that if my daughters, Julia and Bridget, choose-before their marriage- to remain at home and help as usual about the work-then they shall be fed, clothed, and cared for in manner as heretofore by my said wife during her lifetime, and by my said son, John, from the time he comes into ownership of the property designated, until they shall in either case marry or die. And if they or either of them shall die while so living with my said wife or my said son, John without having first received the $ 100. hereinbefore bequeathed to them, then the expenses of their burial shall be paid by my said son, Patrick or Thomas as the case may be, who should otherwise pay the $ 100. to the one that has died. And the said bequest shall then and thereby be satisfied and shall not thenceforth be a charge against my said son or upon the lands devised to him as aforesaid.
